Student Policies Committee

Standing Charges:

1.     The Student Policies Committee shall review and recommend policies to achieve and maintain a high quality of intellectual life for students at the University.

2.     The Committee shall review policies that affect the academic life of students beyond the classroom and influence the academic atmosphere of the University toward the goals of strengthening the intellectual growth of students and integrating the social and academic aspects of student life. This shall include but not be limited to policies and programs of the Office of Residence Life and Housing, the Foreign Student Advisor's Office, and other administrative units.

3.     In reviewing student academic life, the Committee shall consider the role of the sorority and fraternity system; the experience of students not participating in sororities and fraternities; the diversity of the student body; and the participation of international students, ethnically diverse students, and students with disabilities.

4.     The Committee shall receive the report of the faculty representative to the Board of Trustees’ Committee on Student Affairs.

5.     The Committee shall make an annual report to the Senate in writing.

Additional Charges for AY 2023-24:


1. Monitor mental health resources needed to serve student population and access to these mental health resources


2. Identify best practices for programs and services that promote the retention and graduation of minoritized populations on campus.


3. Proactively work with the Provost’s Office, DASS, and related support offices to improve the process for disability testing and evaluation.
