U.S. Department of State Fellowships
The U.S. Department of State offers several transformative opportunities for current undergraduate students and recent graduates to start diplomatic careers. Awardees receive scholarships for graduate education, domestic and international internships to develop foreign affairs skills, and individual mentoring. At the conclusion of the fellowship, awardees are welcomed into different diplomatic roles in accordance with federal laws and State Department policy.
Thomas R. Pickering Graduate Foreign Affairs Program
- One of two flagship programs, along with the Rangel Fellowship, of the U.S. Department of State that seeks high-achieving seniors and recent graduates interested in long-term diplomatic careers.
- Awardees receive up $42,000 a year for a master’s degree in field relevant to joining the Foreign Service.
- Seniors and recent graduates are encouraged to apply.

Rangel Graduate Fellowship Program
- One of two flagship programs, along with the Rangel Fellowship, of the U.S. Department of State that seeks high-achieving seniors and recent graduates interested in long-term diplomatic careers.

FAIT Fellowship
- Provides up to $43,500 a year for bachelor’s or master’s degree (including computer science, computer engineering, cybersecurity, and information technology) en route to a career as a .
- Second-year students, seniors, and recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
- February deadline
William D. Clarke, Sr. Diplomatic Security Fellowship
- Provides up to $42,000 a year for a master’s degree in a field relevant to pursuing a career in the Diplomatic Security Service.
- Seniors and recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
- April deadline
Eligibility
- U.S. citizen
- Minimum GPA of 3.2
- Intention to work for at least five years in the U.S. Foreign Service
- Must meet award-specific eligibility requirements
