Please Note: If you are running Windows 8.1 and wish to use Outlook, you must upgrade to Outlook 2013.
Student Email Configuration (Microsoft 365)
The instructions for configuring your device to retrieve your ÃÛÌÒ½´email vary slightly depending on the device and email client. However, the email settings are the same regardless of the device.
General Configuration Information

Device Instructions
Android Devices
- Click Settings
- Go to Accounts and Sync
- Select the existing ÃÛÌÒ½´account and click Delete Account
- Click Add Account
- Select Email
- Then Select Office 365
- Enter your E-mail address
- Click Next
- Then it will ask for your username (ÃÛÌÒ½´ID) and password
- Click Login
- Then click Accept Microsoft terms
Blackberry
If your Blackberry device support Exchange, follow these settings:
- Click New Email Setup
- Username should be your email address and then enter your ÃÛÌÒ½´Password.
- The setup will FAIL! That is expected. There should then be an option to provide the settings manually.
- Choose Outlook Exchange for the email type
- Server: outlook.office365.com
- Username: Your ÃÛÌÒ½´e-mail address
- Mailbox Name: email alias (first part of your email address)
- Password: your email password
iPhone, iPads and other iOS Devices
There is also a dedicated app available for iOS devices called OWA for iPhone if you don't want to use the native mail client.
iOS/iPadOS 14 and newer
- Open the Settings app on your iOS device
- Scroll down and tap Mail
- Tap Accounts
- Tap Add Accounts
- Enter the following information when prompted:
- Email Address: Your ÃÛÌÒ½´email address.

NOTcuser@mail.smu.edu
- Description: Whatever you want to call the account (Exchange, SMU, etc.)
- Email Address: Your ÃÛÌÒ½´email address.
- Tap Next; if prompted for the server, please enter: mail.smu.edu
- Please choose Sign In when prompted to choose between Configure Manually or Sign In
- Enter your password in the Password field that appears and click Next
- Select the apps you want to use with the account (Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Reminders, Notes)
- Tap Save
For iOS/iPadOS 13 and older
- Open the Settings app on your iOS device
- Scroll down and tap Accounts & Passwords
- Tap Add Account
- Select Exchange from the list
- Enter the following information when prompted:
- Email Address: Your ÃÛÌÒ½´email address.

- Description: Whatever you want to call the account (Exchange, SMU, etc.)
- Email Address: Your ÃÛÌÒ½´email address.
- Tap Next; if prompted for the server, please enter: mail.smu.edu
- Please choose Sign In when prompted to choose between Configure Manually or Sign In
- Enter your password in the Password field that appears and click Next
- Select the apps you want to use with the account (Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Reminders, Notes)
- Tap Save
iPhone Contact Names Disappeared?
If your contacts on your iPhone disappear after the migration, don’t panic! They can easily be retrieved.
- Click Settings
- Click iCloud
- Turn off the synchronization with Contacts. Select “leave on my phone”
- Turn on the synchronization with contacts. Select “merge”
Everything should be back to normal!
Mac Mail (built-in email client in macOS)
Please follow these directions to have your e-mail configure properly.
- Go to System Preferences, then Internet Accounts.
- Select the Exchange option.
- Enter the following information when prompted:
- Description: Your preferred name for this account on your computer.
- Username: Your ÃÛÌÒ½´e-mail address
- Click Continue, the setup will direct you to a login page where you will enter your ÃÛÌÒ½´ID number and password.
- Once completed, you can then open Mac Mail.
ÃÛÌÒ½´Departmental Mailboxes for Microsoft 365 Users
To access a departmental mailbox after your email has moved to Microsoft 365, type the following address into your address bar:
https://outlook.office.com/mail/EMAIL
(Replace EMAIL with the departmental account's e-mail address)
You will be taken to a login page where you can log in with your ÃÛÌÒ½´ID number and password.
Please Note: The HTTPS prefix is required for access. Departmental accounts cannot be accessed from within Exchange Online (Microsoft 365).
