Luke McLeroy is an intellectual property attorney with more than 20 years of experience negotiating collaborative license arrangements to share intellectual property among innovative companies.
Since 2016, Luke has worked at Avanci to create and build licensing platforms that allow connected car and streaming video companies to easily license essential patented technology implemented in their products and services. From 2012 to 2016, Luke worked at Ericsson, where he led the company’s North American patent licensing business. Luke started his career at the law firm McKool Smith, initially as an associate and later as a principal, helping to resolve major intellectual property disputes between some of the world’s largest technology companies. Luke has experience developing and licensing intellectual property portfolios, analyzing and valuing patents in multiple technology areas such as wireless connectivity, codecs, data networks, and security, and advocating intellectual property policy positions to legislative bodies, competition agencies, standard-setting organizations, and other forums.
Luke is a frequent speaker on intellectual property licensing and standard essential patents at industry conferences including those hosted by SMU, the European Commission, the International Telecommunications Union, the American Bar Association, the Berkley Center for Law and Technology, Stanford Law School, and University College London.
