Legal Writing Center
“There is no great writing, only great rewriting.”
- Justice Brandeis
SMU’s Legal Writing Center is a free resource for all law students who want to strengthen and hone their writing skills. No matter the type of law practice, writing is central to an attorney’s job. Our writing center is staffed with upper-level law students (Legal Writing Fellows) who have demonstrated strong analytical and writing skills. Their goal is to help students become critical readers and editors of their own writing. Through interactive, individual meetings, the Legal Writing Fellows support students by guiding them through all stages of the writing process – from brainstorming and outlining to first drafts and revisions. The Writing Center and Fellows are there to support our law students throughout all three years of law school as they grow into proficient legal writers.
