ÃÛÌÒ½´Campus Recreation is committed to the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and members in serving their recreation and fitness needs. As conditions dictate, ÃÛÌÒ½´Campus Recreation will change or modify risk mitigation protocols and strategies in compliance with University and government guidelines.

ÃÛÌÒ½´Campus Recreation

DEDMAN CENTER HOURS

  • Must be an ÃÛÌÒ½´Student or current Dedman Center Member (See Memberships) or purchase a Guest Pass
  • Must present an ÃÛÌÒ½´ID, Dedman Member Card, or government issued photo identification. PICTURES OF A PHOTO ID ARE NOT ACCEPTED.
  • See Member and Guest Expectations and Standards and Facility Rules Below.

Family Recreation Hours were created to permit Dedman Center Members with minor children an opportunity to recreate together, as a family.

·       Saturdays, Sundays, and Federal Holidays Only (does not include local ISD breaks or holidays)

·       Minor Child MUST have a Dedman Center Minor Membership available from the front desk or Online Member Portal.

·       Minor Children Members must be accompanied by adult parent Dedman Center member to enter and at all times while using the facility.

·       Minor Children are NOT permitted in the weight room or use of fitness equipment.

DEDMAN CENTER SEMESTER HOURS (CLASSES IN SESSION) BEGINS AUGUST 25:

  • Monday-Thursday: 6 A.M. – 11 P.M.
  • Friday: 6 A.M. – 10 P.M.
  • Saturday: 10 A.M. – 10 P.M.
  • Sunday: 1 P.M. – 11 P.M.

Dedman Center will close partially or all day for ÃÛÌÒ½´Home Football games. Modified Hours for University Breaks (No Classes) and Federal Holidays.

  • Monday - Friday 6AM - 9 PM.
  • Saturday: 10 AM - 6 PM.

The Dedman Center’s ability to be open and serve our community relies on each of us taking personal responsibility to adhere to known and prescribed protective and safety measures and guidelines while practicing courtesy and respect with “good gym etiquette.”  If you are not willing or able to help us by following the standards and protocols outlined here, regardless of agreement, we ask that you refrain from visiting the Dedman Center.

All Members and Guest are expected to:

  1. Treat every student, member, and guest as they would like to be treated with respect, dignity, and courtesy.
  2. Abide by University and Dedman Center Policies, Mandates, and Rules and expect others to do the same.
  3. Adhere and follow Campus Recreation Staff directives and instructions.
  4. Report injuries, illness, and inappropriate or suspicious behaviors to the Dedman Center’s Operation Staff or Desk.
  5. Wear appropriate attire for the activity (See Rules and Protocols)
  6. Ask Dedman Center Operations for assistance if needed or not familiar with the operation or use of equipment, machines, rules, or protocols.
  7. Return Dedman Center check-out equipment to the desk in the condition it was given.
  8. Not use obscene and offensive behaviors or language including music loud enough for others to hear.
  9. Commit to role model proper gym etiquette:
  • Cleaning equipment, machines, and mats after use;
  • Picking up trash and equipment;
  • Returning towels, equipment, and benches to proper locations;
  • Racking own weights; and
  • Don’t “homestead” on equipment or machines. Share when not using.

GENERAL DEMAN CENTER RULES AND PROTOCOLS

  • For Safety and Security, all individuals entering the Dedman Center will be required to provide proof of identity in the form of University ID, Dedman Center Member Card, or government issued photo identification.
  • All individuals entering the Dedman Center are subject to membership or access verification.
  • Permitting use of ÃÛÌÒ½´ID or Member Card, fraudulent use of ID, or entering without proof of identity and verification of access is a violation of University Policy 9.2, Student Code of Conduct, and Membership Agreement.
  • Be considerate of all Dedman Center users and activities. 
  • Follow directives and instructions of the Campus Recreation staff.
  • Report any damage, malfunctioning, or injuries/illnesses to Campus Recreation staff.
  • Actions, language, or behaviors deemed to be threatening, offensive, or harassing, perceived or real, will result in expulsion from property and suspension without refund.
  • No Food permitted past the entry gates.
  • No open drink beverages, including canned drinks and cups without lids, permitted past the entry gates or in activity areas.
  • Music and language deemed explicit, offensive, or obscene are not permitted.
  • Filming, photography, and video at the Dedman Center or on exterior property must be approved in advance by Campus Recreation. See Filming/Photography.
  • Proper workout attire including closed toe shoes are required within the building and while participating in all activities (excludes indoor pool).
  • Equipment, courts, and other available spaces are a first come, first serve basis without excluding others if not actively in use i.e. “homesteading”.  See Room Reservation for more details.
  • Possession, consumption, or under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs on property is prohibited and subject to loss of privileges and suspension from Dedman Center and Campus Recreation services without refund.
  • Smoking and Vaping are not permitted on premises and only 25 feet from the front entrance per University Policy 1.19 Smoking and Tobacco
  • Personal coolers are prohibited.
  • Pets are not permitted on property. Service Animals as defined in compliance with University Policy 1.17 Animals are welcome. Service Animals In-Training requires prior University approval.
  • Solicitation or distribution of products or services is prohibited on property without prior University approval as stated in University Policy 9.13 Solicitation.
  • Electric scooters and skateboards are not allowed inside the University building including but not limited to roller blades/skates, scooters, skateboards, hover boards, wheeled shoes, etc. See University Policy 9:14 Electric Scooters.
  • Only ÃÛÌÒ½´Campus Recreation employees may provide personal training.  Non-employees providing personal training and clients will be expelled and suspended from the facility without refund.
  • Campus Recreation property must be returned to the desks in the condition obtained by closing of each day. Failure to return equipment to desk will result in additional fees.  See Damaged Equipment Replacement on the ÃÛÌÒ½´Campus Recreation Fees webpage for more information.
  • Individuals may be held responsible for damage, repairs, retrieval, or replacement of Campus Recreation property due to negligence or abuse.
  • Day Use Lockers must be emptied by closing.
  • Athletic teams must acquire Campus Recreation Department approval to conduct team practices, team events, or team workouts.

Facility Specific Rules

BASKETBALL/VOLLEYBALL COURTS

·       Do not hang on rims or nets.

·       Proper athletic shoes are required to play basketball.

·       Personal music speakers should not be loud enough to disturb other users and no explicit language.

MULTI-USE (SOCCER) COURT

·       When in use, close all exterior doors.

·       Personal music speakers should not be loud enough to disturb other users and no explicit language.

·       If no basketball courts available, badminton takes priority for half court.

RACQUETBALL/SQUASH COURTS

·       Do NOT adjust convertible squash court wall without assistance from Campus Recreation Operations staff.

TRACK

·       Follow the Daily Direction sign located at the top of the main stairs to track level.

·       Interior lane for slower traffic

·       Middle lane for passing

·       Exterior lane for faster traffic

GAME AREAS 

·       Return game area to original condition upon departure.

·       Do not sit on billiard or shuffleboard tables

·       Personal music speakers should not be loud enough to disturb other users and no explicit language.

STUDIOS/CLASSROOMS 

·       Must have a reservation.  See Room Reservation for more details.

·       Classrooms are only for meeting-type functions.

·       Audio/Visual and stereo are not included.

FITNESS FLOOR/WEIGHT ROOM

·       Clean equipment and machines after use.

·       Return equipment to proper location and rack weights.

·       Proper workout attire AND closed-toe shoes at all times

·       No personal speakers.

·       Bags and personal items should be stored in the cubbies and NOT permitted in lanes of traffic.

·       Refrain from “home-steading” with weights or on machines.  Allow others to use between sets.

·       Refrain from loud outbursts or obscene language.

·       Ask for help if spotting needed.

INDOOR POOL 

·       An ÃÛÌÒ½´Campus Recreation employed lifeguard must be present when using pool.

·       ÃÛÌÒ½´Aquatics Swim lessons take precedence and limited to 1 lane and shallow lagoon.

·       Proper swim attire required. 

·       No floatation devices other than what is provided by ÃÛÌÒ½´Aquatics.

·       Children, not potty trained, are to wear a swim diaper.

·       No gum.

EXTERIOR POOL “THE FALLS” 

·       Unless reserved event or a facilitated program, entry to and exit from the area is through the Dedman Center.  Violators accessing the area by other means and accomplices will be prosecuted.

·       No glass containers or products permitted in the area.

·       No smoking or vaping in compliance with University Policy 1.19 Smoking and Tobacco

·       No possession or consumption of alcohol or drugs on property.

·       Leave the areas better than you found it. 

SAND VOLLEYBALL COURTS 

·       Unless reserved event or a facilitated program, entry to and exit from areas is through the Dedman Center.  Violators accessing the area by other means and accomplices will be prosecuted.

·       No glass containers or products permitted in the area.

·       No smoking or vaping in compliance with University Policy 1.19 Smoking and Tobacco

·       No possession or consumption of alcohol or drugs on property.

·       Leave the areas better than you found it. 

FILM/VIDEO/PHOTOGRAPHY IN THE DEDMAN CENTER AND CAMPUS RECREATION MANAGED PROPERTIES

 

To protect the privacy of Dedman Center members and ÃÛÌÒ½´Methodist University, filming, videoing, or photography within Dedman Center property is prohibited without proper prior approval.

 

External-to-ÃÛÌÒ½´Persons, Organizations, and Businesses

To film in the Dedman Center, all external-to-ÃÛÌÒ½´affiliated individuals (not currently enrolled student, ÃÛÌÒ½´employee, or ÃÛÌÒ½´Academic/Business Department) must seek permission from ÃÛÌÒ½´Marketing and Communications.

 

ÃÛÌÒ½´Students, Employees, and Academic/Business Departments

Photographing/filming for any purpose will require approval the Dedman Center Administration.  A completed Request to Photograph/Film at Dedman form must be submitted 24 business (Monday-Friday) hours in advance of photo/film shoot date (See Below).

 

A REQUEST IS ONLY A REQUEST AND DOES NOT CONDONE, CONSENT, OR IMPLY APPROVAL.

 

If approved, the requesting individual will be responsible for completing a ÃÛÌÒ½´Consent for Publication of Photograph collecting consent signatures from any individuals appearing in the product including but not limited to: models, participants, crew, and bystanders appearing in product.

 

Dedman Center Photographing/Filming/Videoing Policies:

  • Requesters are to adhere to University Policy 5.15 Commercial Photography
  • Photographs and film may not be published, sold, reproduced, transferred, distributed, or otherwise commercially exploited in any manner whatsoever to include social media.
  • Photography, videography or filming is not permitted in Dedman Center locker rooms or restrooms.
  • Under no condition are Minors (<18 years of age) permitted to be photographed or filmed.
  • All photography, videoing, and filming must be conducted during operational hours without disturbing, interfering, or limiting Dedman Center operations or member’s access to facility space or equipment.
  • Prior permission by all photographic subjects must be secured with signed photo release. More information upon approval.
  • ÃÛÌÒ½´Campus Recreation reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to withhold and/or withdraw permission to photograph on its premises or the reproduction of photographs that include facilities, members, and staff.
  • Violations of Dedman Center policies will be subject to University disciplinary and/or criminal charges as deemed appropriate.

     

    Procedures to Request Photographing/Filming/Videoing at Dedman Center:

    • Complete the Dedman Center Photo/Video/Film Request form below a minimum of 24 business (Monday-Friday) hours prior to your anticipated time of photography/filming. 
    • Forms submitted on weekends or holidays will not be reviewed until the next business day.
    • Approval or denial will be in the form of a Docusign document.
    • Approvals will receive a follow up email with additional and required directions and instructions.
    • Non-ÃÛÌÒ½´associated with production or project will need to complete Guest procedures to enter Dedman Center.
    • Requests to photograph, film or video Group Exercise classes, Personal Training, Intramural events, and Climbing Wall/Outdoor Adventure activities will require additional approvals.

Dedman Center's Lost/Found is located at the Front Desk.  If the owner can be identified, Dedman Center staff will make attempts to notify via email.  To better assist you, provide the date of lost/missing, detailed description of lost/missing item(s), and suspected location last seen or placed.

 

NOTE: ÃÛÌÒ½´Campus Recreation complies with University Policy 9.9: Use of Surveillance Equipment. If suspected theft of personal items, please contact ÃÛÌÒ½´Police at 214-786-3388.

Lost/Found Protocols and Procedures:

  • Unclaimed items will be retained for 2 weeks, at which time items will be donated to a local charitable organization. 
  • In most cases, items meeting our definition of “valuables”, personal items (wallets, credit cards, etc.), electronics and jewelry estimated in value of over $100, will be forwarded to ÃÛÌÒ½´Police for University Lost/Found within 48 hours.
  • A photo ID will be required to retrieve items designated as valuable.
