1. Policy Statement

It is the policy of the University to provide a comprehensive paid medical absence plan to benefits-eligible staff employees.

2. Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to enable employees to take paid absence from work for medical care, personal illness or injury, the care of an ill member of the employee's immediate family, or the death of a member of the employee's immediate family.

3. Applicability

Full-time and part-time benefits-eligible employees are eligible to receive regular pay during medical absences based on their accrued medical hours.

4. Department Administrative Rules, Procedures, and Guidelines

  1. The Department of Human Resources, under the purview of the Vice President for Business and Finance, has oversight and administrative responsibility for this policy and shall promulgate departmental rules, procedures, and guidelines pursuant to this policy.
  2. Eligibility requirements for Paid Medical Absence, Use of Paid Medical Absence, and Reporting of Paid Medical Absence, along with other detailed administrative rules, procedures and guidelines, can be found on the Human Resources website.
