Major
Requirements for the Statistical Science Degree
The Bachelor of Science in Statistical Science prepares students for careers in data analysis. The degree also prepares students for advanced studies in statistical science, such as graduate work in the field or in a related discipline. Because of its interdisciplinary nature and the degree to which data analysis is important to nearly all academic fields of study, statistical science is an exciting and valuable double major.
Requirements for the Data Science Degree
The Bachelor of Science in Data Science emphasizes the use of data to describe and understand the world around us. It applies ideas and methods from statistics, computer science, and optimization to find innovative solutions to important problems in many areas. Graduates that combine data science knowledge with fields like management science, humanities, social sciences, or engineering are in high demand.
Given the interdisciplinary nature of the study of data science, students are required to take another major in any discipline. The data science major cannot be the first major declared by a student. Students obtaining a B.S. degree in data science may not also obtain a B.A. degree in mathematics.
By default, students declaring a statistical science or data science major will follow the catalog requirements in effect at their matriculation. Students may follow a subsequent catalog if they wish.
