Braunshay is studying US History. He is primarily interested in the evolution of racial and ethnic definitions, particularly those of mixed ethnic heritage in the south and borderland areas. Secondarily he is interested in the transatlantic movement of religious ideas and their changing interpretations during different periods of US History. His research centers on post-Civil War African American history, primarily with an emphasis on community formation in agricultural contexts in Texas and Louisiana.
