Some Perspectives On The Value Of Standardized Entrance Tests

Test scores serve as one predictor of academic success and although submitting a strong test score is always recommended, students applying to the Spring 2024 or Fall 2024 entry terms have the option as to whether to submit a GMAT, GRE, Executive Assessment or TOEFL/IELTS score as a part of their application.

If you do submit a test score, the Admissions Committee will evaluate your highest total score as we review your overall candidacy. We do not “super score” or combine scores from multiple tests. The Admissions Committee does not have a preference on which test you take, so we encourage you to take the exam on which you will perform best.

For applications without a test score, we assess your application based on a holistic review process that considers all your application components. We evaluate the overall strength of your candidacy, including academic readiness, career goals, leadership potential, and through your ability to demonstrate why Cox is the ideal business school for you.
By removing one component from your application, your other components will carry more importance in the committee’s final decision.

Below are some items to consider as you craft your application.

Scholarships

Applicants who submit a competitive standardized test score have an additional application data point that can be advantageous when it comes to both admission to Cox and scholarship consideration.

Academic History

If your transcripts do not accurately reflect your ability to perform in a classroom, submitting a test score may alleviate concerns the Admissions Committee has about your ability to succeed in our demanding MBA curriculum.

Work Experience

If you do not have a quantitative background and do not submit a test score, you will need to find other areas within your experience to demonstrate your quantitative skills. We want to make sure you will be academically successful in the program.  For those with fewer years of work experience, a standardized test score may make your application more competitive.

Career Goals

If you do not have a quantitative background and do not submit a test score, you will need to find other areas within your experience to demonstrate your quantitative skills. We want to make sure you will be academically successful in the program. For those with fewer years of work experience, a standardized test score may make your application more competitive.
