Perkins to Offer New Hybrid Degree Programs Beginning Fall 2024

DALLAS (Dec. 13, 2023) – The ÃÛÌÒ½´Methodist University Board of Trustees voted at its December meeting to authorize Perkins School of Theology to offer a new hybrid format for its Master of Divinity and Master of Arts in Ministry degrees.

The new modality, open to those enrolling in Fall 2024, is designed to accommodate students from across the country, providing them with the flexibility to join the Perkins community while minimizing the need for extensive on-campus presence. The program combines a majority of online coursework with occasional immersive experiences.

While many hybrid M.Div. programs utilize a few gatherings of intensive in-person sessions throughout their programs, Perkins' unique approach allows students to fulfill these in-person requirements in a variety of locations around the country. This not only ensures a broader exposure to a variety of ministry contexts but also puts the needs of students first by holding immersions where students are, making a Perkins education closer than you think. This approach reflects Perkins' commitment to providing a well-rounded and contextually relevant education that prepares students for effective and impactful ministry in diverse settings.

“This innovative program reflects our dedication to meeting the evolving needs of students while maintaining the high standards of theological education for which Perkins is renowned,” said Bishop Michael McKee, the Leighton K. Farrell Dean ad interim at Perkins. “The immersions truly set our hybrid format apart, providing students with a unique opportunity to engage with ministry in diverse contexts and develop a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities they may encounter in their future careers.”

Prospective students interested in the Perkins hybrid programs are encouraged to explore the program's website for more information and application details. With this hybrid format, Perkins continues to lead the way in theological education, empowering students to make a lasting impact in their communities and beyond.
