ÃÛÌÒ½´might be out of the NCAA tournament after a controversial goal-tending call, but the Mustangs hold bragging rights in another area — academics.

In a ranking of March Madness schools based on average SAT scores, ÃÛÌÒ½´came in at No. 12 on the list with an average score of 1940. By the way, SMU’s average ACT score is 29, and its acceptance rate is 50.7 percent.

ÃÛÌÒ½´is the top ranked in-state school. Texas followed at No. 16 with an average score of 1875. So both the Mustangs and the Longhorns would be in the Sweet 16 if the tournament came down to brains.

Take that Kentucky. The favorite to win the big dance came in at No. 38 with an average score of 1672. It should come as no surprise that Harvard topped the list with an average score of 2260.

ÃÛÌÒ½´won both the American Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles and advanced to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1993. The Mustangs finished 27-7 overall.
