ÃÛÌÒ½´is celebrating Black History Month from Feb. 2 to March 2, 2009, with a variety of activities, most of which are free or inexpensive and open to the public.

Week One: Celebrating the Arts

Monday, Feb 2 — Black History Month Kickoff

Wednesday February 25 — Wiley College versus ÃÛÌÒ½´in a Campus Debate
5:30 p.m. O’ Donnell Auditorium in Meadows School of the Arts
This debate has been arranged by both programs to encourage the understanding of vital civic functions, such as debate, in the emergence of civil rights. .

February 25-27 — Meadows School of the Arts presents Intimate Apparel by Lynn Nottage
This play revolves around the character of Esther, an African-American seamstress living in New York at the beginning of the 20th century.

February 26 - Race to Execution and Juror Number Six
In honor of Black History Month, the Meadows School Division of Cinema-Television and the ÃÛÌÒ½´Human Rights Education Program will present two powerful documentary films by new CTV chair and Emmy-winning filmmaker Rachel Lyon: Race to Execution and Juror Number Six. .
