ҽCox Caruth Institute Releases Annual Dallas 100 Alpha List
Dallas, TX (SMU) Oct. 7, 2022 — The ҽCox Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship kicked off its annual celebration of the entrepreneurial spirit Thursday night with a networking reception at the Cox School of Business Collins Executive Center on the ҽcampus. The event begins the countdown to the annual Dallas 100 Awards Gala, which will be on Nov. 2 at the Hyatt Regency Dallas. Every year, the Caruth Institute honors the Dallas area’s 100 fastest-growing privately held businesses. The Oct. 6 event was a pre-gala, invitation-only networking opportunity, especially for this year’s Dallas 100 company founders. In conjunction with the CEO Reception, the Caruth Institute released—alphabetically—its coveted Dallas 100 list. The rank order of these 100 companies will be announced at the November event. To qualify for the competition, these companies must have revenue earnings of $500,000 to $100 million dollars.
“None of these companies would have made it into the Dallas 100 had it not been for the determination, dedication, and commitment they maintained—through the pandemic no less--to take their companies to the next level,” said Simon Mak, director of the Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship. “This Dallas 100 pre-gala CEO Reception and our Nov. 2 Awards Gala offer these entrepreneurs the opportunity to celebrate their own hard work and take inspiration from their fellow entrepreneurs.”
The Oct. 6 reception also featured advice from keynote speaker and Dallas entrepreneur John Merris, the CEO of Solo Brands (NYSE: DTC). The company was ranked No. 41 on the Dallas 100 list in 2019 and No.5 in 2021. It grew from 25 employees and $10 million in yearly revenue in 2018 to $482 million in revenue last year. Solo Brands went IPO on October 28th, 2021. “That kind of growth came with a lot of growing pains,” Merris said, but he offered encouragement to fellow CEOs. “It’s not always pretty . . . nobody sees what it takes to win in life and in business, but you all have done that during an unprecedented, difficult time,” he said. “Congratulations to all of you on your successes.”
At the Dallas 100 Awards Gala in November, the rank order announcement of each company, beginning with No. 100, will culminate with the big reveal at the end of the evening: this year’s No. 1 fastest-growing privately held Dallas area company. The Dallas 100 competition annually gauges the ascension of privately held companies in Dallas and surrounding cities based on three years of continuous revenue growth.
The Caruth Institute, working with the accounting firm FORVIS, LLP examined sales from hundreds of companies for 2019 to 2021, the last year for which complete data is available. The winners represent Dallas and 16 surrounding cities. This year’s Dallas 100 program sponsors, in alphabetical order, are: The ActOne Group; FORVIS, LLP; Bluecrest Financial Alliances; Dallas Business Journal; Executive Press; JLL; KRLD NewsRadio 1080; MarketScale; Texas Capital Bank; Thompson Coburn, LLP; and USI.
